All international journal outlets should monetize the activities of reviewers.
I received my first payment as a reviewer for a renowned university-based journal.
As an emerging scholar, being compensated for what I've always considered a passion and hobby is nothing short of sensational.
During one of my library soft skills programs, a participant approached me expressing interest in having me as a reviewer for their journal. Without hesitation, I welcomed the opportunity.
A few months after our initial encounter, I received an email requesting me to review some articles. After scanning through, I returned a few articles that were not within my area of interest.
Within a few weeks โ a period extended due to work commitments โ I returned the reviewed articles. Almost immediately, the participant called, expressing her appreciation for the thorough and constructive criticism. Her satisfaction was evident.Early one Monday morning, I received an alert confirming payment for the journal article vetting fees. I was thrilled; it was unexpected, and receiving compensation for something I considered a mere hobby felt like a gift.
If I can be financially acknowledged for a hobby and passion, then let's commercialize it. Emi ti mo like Owo.๐ To all international journal outlets taking fees from authors before publishing, take note. Acknowledge and monetize the activities of reviewers.
I've learned that the first pay from a job is not for a "Dorime" celebration but an opportunity to invest in more tools. I already have a wish list of books, in case you were about to ask for it.
For those aspiring to chase their dreams, there's no better time than now.
